Farewell, 916 Garden: The Garage Has Been Decommissioned As of April 11, 2025, the 916 Garden Street Garage is officially closed—and any remaining vehicles have been towed out. Built in 2002 as a prototype of modern parking, the garage served Hoboken for over two decades. But in recent years, the aging technology and failing internal systems reduced its capacity from over 300 cars to just 57. Prolonged outages and obsolete parts made keeping it running both unsustainable and impractical. The City made multiple attempts to assist tenants in relocating their vehicles ahead of closure, offering discounted monthly permits at other municipal garages and on-street alternatives. Despite those efforts, some vehicles were left behind and have now been removed at the owner’s expense. What’s next for the site? The City is working with consultants and vendors to evaluate the future—options include rebuilding, private partnerships, or reimagining the space entirely.
